Dr Mahendra Meta is a Queensland-trained orthopaedic surgeon specialised in Adult Hip & Knee Replacement Surgery and Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery.

He is one of very few orthopaedic surgeons in Brisbane with sub-specialty training fellowships in Adult as well as Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery (undertaken in Australia, New Zealand and India). His unique understanding of hip and knee problems across all age groups makes him versatile in treating these conditions.

He has more than 20 years of international experience in the field of orthopaedic surgery. Having had a very broad exposure to a wide variety of cases, he exhibits the wisdom of experience.

His practice is based on four strong pillars - experience, precision, passion and most importantly, compassion. He strongly believes that “a good surgeon lives within a good human being”. As a surgeon, he has always been thorough and careful in his clinical assessment, surgical planning and implementation.

His main focus is on Hip & Knee Replacement Surgery using ERAS (Enhanced Recovery after Surgery) Program. He also incorporates latest technical & technological advances in joint replacement surgery with the aim to improve accuracy, longevity of joint replacement, patient satisfaction & outcomes. He enjoys his work as a Specialist Hip & Knee surgeon and a Deputy Director at QE II Jubilee Hospital.

He also has particular interest in arthroscopic (minimally invasive) knee surgery for sports injuries including “Single Tendon” ACL reconstruction.

Dr Meta also treats various lower limb conditions in children & adolescents (including deformity correction using osteotomies or guided growth, limb lengthening and reconstruction). He is a Specialist Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.

Before moving to Australia, he had completed his medical degree and orthopaedic specialist training at leading tertiary care institute in India with academic excellence throughout his educational career. He had also worked as consultant orthopaedic surgeon for many years including positions as Head of Department and Asst. professor in Orthopaedics. His previous Indian tertiary care institute experience in performing complex joint replacements in very advanced hip and knee arthritis problems combined with Australian experience of using advanced evidence based techniques & technologies provides best of both worlds to his patients needing hip or knee replacement.

During his orthopaedic career in Queensland, he worked at various facilities including RBWH (Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital), RCH (Royal Children Hospital), PAH (Princess Alexandra Hospital), TPCH (The Prince Charles Hospital), Ipswich Hospital, Townsville Hospital & Rockhampton Base hospital -further enriching his skills as an orthopaedic surgeon.

Dr Meta is also actively involved in medical research and has presented and published on various topics. Following his passion for orthopaedics, he attained two (2) Masters degrees in orthopaedics. He keeps himself up to date with the latest in orthopaedics by attending conferences, meetings & workshops, nationally & internationally.

He is affiliated to UQ (University of Queensland) and involved in training & education of orthopaedic trainees (registrars), junior doctors and medical students.

He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in orthopaedics, a member of AOA (Australian Orthopaedic Association) and AAOS (American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons).

Outside his work, he loves tennis, music and spending time with family. He is multilingual and in addition to English, he can fluently speak Hindi and Gujarati languages.
